I know it’s August and Duets were the focus for July on all about Lemons Music Passion, but I have a Sound reason for the next pair of offerings. As promised, Issue #2 of Short Stories and Tall Tales featuring the origin of Starduster was completed in time to be introduced at the 2014 San Diego ComiCon. The face that President Iron Joe Lyon is based upon is Iggy Pop, so without further ado I give you Iggy and Blondie’s Debby Harry doing their impersonation of Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby on Cole Porter’s Well, Did You Evah?
Now, enjoy the star as he duets with the Pet Shop Boys on his own Hallo SpaceBoy.
The hardest part of putting the comic together was recreating several pages of “lost lettering”. As the late, great Shel Dorf had graciously done the honors for us, I had to painstakingly recreate the sentences from the existing samples we did have. as I layered letters again and again, the spinning wheel of death began showing up on my screen. I glanced at the status bar and noticed that the file had grown in short order to over 2 Gigabytes! OUCH!
Shown below is the result, generously presented in this Cyber-Only preview, courtesy of Liquid Star Comics. William asked me to publicize the fact that it is a special anniversary issue. Not only is it the 40th anniversary of Starduster, but it is also the 30th anniversary of Clayton Moore’s Monty Monkey! I hope you think the final product was worth the wait.
Oh Shit! I just noticed that part 2 of X.K.L.B.R. is slated to appear in issue No. 3! Guess it’s back to the drawing board for me…TA!!!!!
